Srinagar, July 29: Continuing their salvo against the ruling coalition government, opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Thursday locked the gates of civil secretariat, Srinagar to protest the recent civilian killings.
Mehbooba Mufti, the leader of largest opposition party along with senior party leaders and activists this afternoon assembled outside the civil secretariat, housing the office of Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah and his cabinet and staged anti-government demonstrations.
Carrying placards and banners that read "Stop killings," "Release innocent youth," "Punish the killers," and shouting slogans, the PDP leaders and activists locked the main gate of the secretariat and staged sit-in demonstration.
"Government has let loose a reign of terror. Official records show 1400 teenagers have been arrested, even as the actual figure is much larger. The continued undeclared curfew and inhuman restrictions have converted the whole valley into a large prison," Mehbooba said, while addressing the media men.
Demanding the immediate release of all the innocent persons, Mehbooba said the government seems to be at war with its own people and it had lost all credibility and moral authority to rule the state. The undue restrictions, she said had brought life to a stand till and economic despair to entire society especially the weaker and the vulnerable sections.
She said even though the community had responded to needs of poor the government did not even allow the relief goods to reach those in need of them.
Expressing solidarity with the people, PDP president said that all the organizational units will contribute their mite to the relief effort and help in saving the poor from starvation.
"The government should lift the restrictions and release all the detainees before the holy month of Ramdhan," she added. |
